Special Programs

Specific SBDC Centers coordinate or direct local entrepreneurs and business owners to specialty programs that assist specific types of businesses, business owners, industries, and business challenges. Ask your SBDC consultants and SBDC trainers about their special programs and their center’s industry expertise, as there may even be other specialized counseling and training programs at your local center that have not been mentioned here.

Florida Procurement & Technical Assistance Centers (FPTAC)

The Florida Procurement Technical Assistance Center (FPTAC) program has been a specialized program of the Networks for more than 15 years. It is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Defense Defense
Logistics Agency. A statewide program manager Is housed in the State Director’s Office in Pensacola and PTAC specialists are located in four other SBDCs around the state. The Florida Procurement and Technical Assistance Centers help Florida businesses interested in obtaining contracts with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, and state/ local government agencies and participating prime contractors.

Counseling is provided free of charge to any Florida firm. Fees may be charged for special services and/or workshops. The purpose of the FPTAC is to educate businesses on government polices, generate sales and jobs for Florida businesses and to improve the business climate and economic development in Florida. Counseling services include the following: Bid/Proposal Preparation, Basic Training conferences, Marketing, Contract Administration, Pre-award Surveys, Quality Assurance Program, Special Training Programs, Federal supply Schedule Solutions, and 8(a), SDB and MBE Certifications.

Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC)

The Veterans’ Business Outreach Center, located at the Gulf Coast Community College SBDC, serves as a clearinghouse of business and technical assistance for veterans interested in starting or growing a business in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The VBOC conducts research, counsels and educates veteran entrepreneurs in a wide variety of business topics. Comprehensive information services, links to resource partners and access to experts in many fields are also available through the VBOC. The FSBDC Network has received a performance-based contract to deliver 10 statewide FastTrac Courses. FastTrac is a nationally recognized entrepreneurial training program that uses a specially developed curriculum, certified facilitators and materials to provide entrepreneurial training.
