Starting and running a small business in today’s shifting economy is a challenge. All of the rapid changes may have you suffering from Entrepreneurial Paralysis, Red Tape Hypertension or Accountaphobia. Fortunately, the SBDC has the cure for whatever ails you, and treatment begins right here. Each of the small business conditions listed on this site are accompanied by recommended courses of treatment. Take these suggestions with a grain of salt, rather than the usual gulp of water. They are only recommendations, not requirements. You can take all or none of the classes suggested. You can take them in the order they’re presented or arrange them in a way that works better for you. Now, that’s treatment that’s easy to swallow. We could use a nice profile on this guy, maybe something funny about him being a new addition to the team and all of the online help he will provide to identify and overcome the different disorders.

Regional Director Describes What Small Businesses Need Most
Businesses don’t make business news. People do. Executives profiled in the Tampa Bay Business Journal provide readers with valuable personal insights into how they do business and strategic challenges they have overcome, as well as a peek at how careers evolved. The Executive Files, produced in collaboration with Shooting Stars Post, brings these profiles to life in video vignettes.
This week features Eileen Rodriguez, Regional director, Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida.
“The main thing that they need is financial help” said Eileen. The economic downturn has hurt many small businesses that have turned to the SBDC for help. The goal is to help clients “not just stay in business, but expand their business at the same time.”
Eileen also discussed the desire to “bring in some new partners” including “the Greater Hernando Chamber of Commerce. The SBDC covers a 10 county region including Hernando County, which would not be possible without strong local partners.

Training Seminars and Consulting Services Provide Assistance to Start or Grow a Business
Local small business owners express talked to WUSF recently about their appreciation for the value provided by the Small Business Development Center at USF. “This has given me a lot of insight on how to be an ideal small business and grow into a large business” says Ty Huelle of MaskYourCard.com. “My goal is really to figure out how as an individual can I grow this business and this company through eCommerce”
The SBDC provides small business clients with “Seminars that pertain to them” says Eileen Rodriguez, “such as Financing, Marketing, Advertising, Taxes, Doing Business with the Government”. These training seminars typically run two to four hours and give clients the ability to learn what they need to help their small business success in a time frame that is convenient to a small business owner.
