What Does the SBDC Resource Center Provide?

The resource center includes a library of books, manuals and other printed materials that offer assistance for starting up or running a business.

The resource center also includes computers that have research and business planning software installed and are equipped with access to online research databases that are not freely available to the public.

What Type of Books and Manuals will I Find in the Resource Center?

The library consists of over one hundred start-up guides put together by Entrepreneur Magazine, including:

  • Medical Billing Service Start up Guide
  • How to Start a Maid Service
  • Restaurant Start up Guide
  • Financing Your Small Business
  • Starting and Running Your Home Based Business
  • Personal Training Business Start-up Guide
  • Plus many more titles

The resource library also includes many books that are free to use covering topics such as: Sales, Financing, Marketing, Innovation, Negotiating, Goal Setting, Managing People, Insurance and many other topics that are important to your business.

What Type of Electronic Resources are Accessible Through Resource Center Computers?

With the resource center computers there is registered access to:

  • Access to Reference USA
  • Morning Star
  • Lexis Nexis
  • Dun & Bradstreet
  • Many other resources that are part of the USF Library Family

The Ultimate Business Planner software is also installed on the resource center computers so you can edit your business plan as you conduct research.

Where is the Resource Center Located?

The USF Small Business Development Center resource center is located in the main office in the Tampa Port Authority Building. Please visit the Contact Us page for a map of this location.

How do I Make an Appointment to Use the Resource Center?

You must call to make an appointment to use the resource center. Please call (813) 905-5800 to make an appointment. In order to protect client confidentiality, the resource center is limited to us by one business at a time.

Tampa Port Authority USF Small Business Development Center at Tampa Port Authority The University of South Florida Small Business Development Center is located in Tampa, Florida and has Satellite Offices in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Lakeland, Venice and Avon Park.

Small Business Resource Network

For information and assistance outside the SBDC’s scope, the Small Business Resource Network (SBRN), a public-private partnership of the Florida Small Business Development Center Network and member firms, is a free information clearing-house to connect small businesses with government and non-profit agencies and the fee-for-service professional expertise they need to achieve their business goals.
Small Business Resource Network
SBRN professionals assist in the areas of accounting, banking and commercial lending, finance, insurance, law, human resources, marketing, management, technology and other business consulting areas. Agency members specialize in a variety of small business assistance programs.

FSBDC Network

The Small Business Development Center at the University of South Florida is a member of the Florida Small Business Development Center Network and serves the following counties: Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Hardee, Sarasota, Desoto, & Highlands.
